                                          A "Special Project"

                                             By: Suzy Black

How many houses are there on your street? We drive by these houses, people, families -- almost everyday! Who are they? Has anyone reached out to them? Do they know about God's love? Do they know that someone cares if they know about God's love? They are neighbors, people that live by you, and near you. Not just the people that live right next to you. I'm sure that you have reached out to the houses right around you, but I encourage you to go beyond that!

In our schoolwork we have been studying about Countries and Cultures, and how these people really need Jesus! We all know that they do, but it just really hits home when you read about their religion and culture and what lies they are lead to believe. We aren't in a different country "on the mission field" as it's called, but we are right in the middle of our own mission field! So, we counted how many houses there are on our street, Alexander St, and found out that there are 64 houses, besides ours. This is our mission field!

So, we decided to start simple with just a little gift. We made about 400 cookies, and put 6 in each bag with a note that had Romans 5:8 written on it: "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

I drove down the street and prayed for each family while the kids delivered them to all the houses and told them, "We live down the street, and we want to give you a gift." Some people were puzzled and asked, "Why?", some were so appreciative, one guy said that he was a born-again Christian and that we could give it to someone else who needs it, one older lady told the kids to come back this summer and visit her, and one lady held up the bag(which you could see through), saw the verse, then handed it back and said, " I don't want it". I prayed a special prayer for her!

In a few weeks we will do it again with a different verse in the gift. We've talked about doing brownies, door hangers, and other foods and crafts. We want them to know that we care if they know Jesus or not. We want them to come to know the salvation and love that God has for them.

So, how many houses/families/people live on your street?
