Teach Your Baby to Sign!
Why? Teaching
sign language to hearing babies improves their language, vocabulary and
reading skills, and furthers brain development. Teaching babies sign
will allow them to talk with you before they have the physical ability
to speak; they can tell you they want milk instead of juice, or an
apple instead of a cookie (like that's gonna happen!), or that their
tummy hurts. After they begin to speak, you won't need your 4 year old
to interpret for you - fortunately your baby knows sign.
Children
like to use sign. They pay more attention, and because of the movement,
they get more involved. Using fingerspelling along with teaching
phonics and math increases children's speed, accuracy, memory and
understanding of both languages and math.
Here's an idea to try: When
Spring finally arrives, open your doors and windows, and have a "silent
hour", with no voicing - only signs and the sounds of Spring.
Finally, if you enjoy lifting your hands to worship the Lord, then you will enjoy signing with your hands to worship!
