I am a homeschooling mom of 3 boys. I enjoy couponing, frugal living, spending time with family and friends, church activities, reading and internet surfing.
The new thing in snacks and diet is "100 calorie snacks". I have found that those can be very expensive. I have found a couple of ways to help with portion control and make our own 100 calorie snacks.

One idea is that make our own Jello and Pudding cups. I buy the small boxes of Pudding and Jello Sugar Free, Fat Free variety make a batch and then put the servings in some nice Rubbermaid single serving bowls w/lid  that I purchased from Dollar Tree.  They are the Take Along Small Rounds: http://rubbermaid.com/rubbermaid/product/category.jhtml?cat=HPCat100067 :

They are also available at Walmart and Target and other places Rubbermaid is sold. These work great for all types of snacks even dry snacks. I use these on the go and at home.

Also, you can buy large bags of snacks and chips and some of the "Snack Bag" ziploc bags and repackage them as soon as you get home. I have done this for about 1yr for my boys and it really does help. My boys could/would eat a whole bag of snacks in one sitting. This has really helped them with that. I buy a big bag of Trader Joe's Cheese Puffs for $1.69 and get about 20 "snack sized" bags out of the one bag. Cost per serving= 8.5¢. Much cheaper then a .33¢ bag of chips and much healthier.

I have recently begun doing this with fruit also. My boys hog the fruit as soon as it comes in the door. By "bagging" up into individual servings it also helps!

Most of the bags, especially those containing dry snacks, are washed and reused quite a few times!

This has really been a huge money saver for our family!

This is great - both for the budget and for teaching children what a decent portion looks like. :) Thanks for the tip!
