Married since 10/92 Mother of 4 {teen to newborn} actress that can sew & crochet, loves to bike & sometimes run....

Inspired by this site (great tutorial), I decided to make some cloth diapers for my babe to be!  Prefolds are the simplest to make, easy for beginners since they require only basic sewing knowledge.  I began by cutting diaper size rectangles out of old t-shirts.

For the thicker diaper centers, I cut rectangular strips of old sweatshirts.  You could also use old towels or blankets.

My babe will have quite the Sporty Baby Bum...don't you think? lol

I layered the narrow sweatshirt strip between the 2 outer layers and straight stitch up each side.
Zig-zag or serge the outer rectangle edges and VOILA'!

I had a little flannel fabric so I decided to dress them up a bit. I realize I prefer to use flannel on one side @ least. There is a T-shirt on the other side of the flannels. The other 2 are all t-shirt w/ sweatshirt centers. I have to say I prefer the flannel on one side. The T-shirts tended to stretch a bit while zig-zagging around & kinda ruffled along the side.

The cutting was the most tedious part but after that, the actual making of the diapers was easy-peasy!! If Ihad access to a serger, it would have been SO much faster but a zig-zag stitch works in a pinch.

My camera flash made the pix extra, extra bright so the color is a bit off but trust me, they are pretty cute, soft & snuggly. In my opinion!

Editor's Note: If you would like, you may check out the option of making your own fitted diapers as well.
