I am a Christian, homeschooling mother of three precious girls, ages 12, 8, and a new little one born May 2009! I am also the wife of the best man on earth (for me ;) ). We desire the Lord's will for our life in all things.
Well, I said in the first post of this series that I would post about my Grocery Binder. It is just a plain black binder, mainly because David doesn't like being stuck with a purple binder in front of him those times he is with us and pushing the cart ;) I have a zipper pouch in the front to hold pens, a calculator, any receipts or various things.

The next page is where I keep coupons that I will or might use on that trip. I use plastic baseball card holders. I found them at Walmart in the aisle where the page protectors are.
Usually I have the current list (made using the Don't Forget the Milk site) in front of the coupon page. It always looks nice and clean, but it won't stay that way. As you can hopefully see, it shows what to get and what aisle it is on, how much it *should* cost, how many to get and whether I have a coupon for that item. I often forget to check that one. Then there is a section for notes. I usually put things like "C-$1" or "sale" or things like that.
This is giving you an idea of what it will look like by the time I'm done shopping. I will have marked the things that have gone up in price or down (rarely), or if I decided to buy a different product, or the info on a product that I was only guessing on when I was at home.
Let's say I want to buy a product I don't normally buy, or that isn't already in the program or that always varies, like razors. I never know exactly what kind I will buy, so I put in "Razors?", then I will fill in the info at the store. Ideally, when I get home I will edit the list on the computer with the right info and then print a new list to put in the binder. So, now I know fairly accurately how much I will spend the next time I go grocery shopping.

I can also see how prices have risen and when sales usually cycle. But, I don't really pay too much attention to that. It can get depressing if I think too much on how prices almost always go up, up, up.

UPDATE: I no longer take the binder in the store with me. I usually just take the grocery list in my purse and have a pen on hand. This works better for us right now because I can put the list in my purse before leaving home and not worry about forgetting the binder in the car (it has happened more times than I would like to admit). I also don't use as many coupons anymore. They rarely have them for the foods we buy. I don't bother to reprint the list, I just try to remember to update the online prices so I have an accurate pricing for the next trip.

God Bless,
Tiffany
