This year my hubby and I turn 10 years old. It's been quite the ride and
thankfully with only a couple of bumps along the way. God has been good
to us and I started thinking about the
lessons I've learnt:
- Even in a fight or a disagreement, ALWAYS remember that the
other person loves you. You're there to work out the problems together,
not to hurt the other person or make them feel worse. Work together to
resolve it but remember, you're in this together.
- Divorce is not an option. 3 out of 4 marriages end in divorce and it breaks my heart.
- Honour your hubby, even in the little things.
- Put
your husband first. I remember a time when I was serving swordfish and
one of the pieces of fish looked better so I put it on my plate! Yes,
I'm not ashamed to tell you for the purpose of the blog!! Anyway, I
quickly felt convicted and actually apologized to Tim about it. It was
really early on in our marriage and has served as a good reminder ever
since.
- Never talk badly about your hubby to others.
Sometimes we wanna grumble with the girls or moan but it just doesn't
help and it certainly doesn't honour.
- Communicate about
everything. Once a month we try and take stock of where we're at.
Sometimes the conversation will go like this, "If you keep doing
......, you're going to drive me crazy!!" It really helps to be
proactive about things that bother you before you have to be reactive
and cause a fight.
- Find out his love language and start
speaking it. Gary Chapman came out with a great book, The 5 Love
Languages, that has revolutionized the way I think about relationships.
Sometimes it takes a while to realise that although you think you're
doing what the other person wants, you aren't speaking their language.
- Set
up date nights and keep them. I don't care if you're tired, the dog is
sick or there isn't much spare cash, date nights will help keep the
spark alive. We've done things as lavish as private plane rides to as
small as taking bread and cheese to the park and we've had tons of fun
at both!

Those are great!
I'm thinking that maybe we should put together a post on date night ideas - we could use some! :)
