I am a homeschool mom with six children.
How to play Farkel - A game that is (great for math), great for conversation, laughs, and fun!

You need six dice to play. One person is the score keeper. Each player rolls the dice in turn (youngest first).

The player's first roll must add up to 500 pts. to begin a score tally, or to "get your name on the board",  so on that first turn just keep on rolling, until you can add 500 pts at the end of your turn without Farkeling (see below).

A five die= 50 pts.  and a one die =100pts. If either of these are rolled, that die may be pulled out, and the remaining dice rolled again to see if you can get more points. However, the player must be able to weigh the probability wisely. If you can't pull out a dice of one, five, or the below dice combinations, then the player "Farkels" (loses all points rolled in that turns so far), and can't continue to roll until the next turn. Thus, they don't get any points for their turn. However, for each roll that the player is able to pull out a score, they may continue rolling until they wisely decide to stop. If a score is achieved with all six dice, all six may be rolled again until the player decides to stop and keep the score they have rolled for that turn.
Winner wins at 10,000 pts.

3 dice of 1's in one roll = 300        4 of a kind in one roll= 1000
3 dice of 2's in one roll= 200         5 of a kind  in one roll= 2000
3 dice of 3's in one roll= 300         6 of a kind in one roll = 3000
3 dice of 4's in one roll= 400          a straight in one roll (1-6) = 2000
3 dice of 5's in one roll= 500          3 pairs  in one roll =2000
3 dice of 6's in one roll = 600         2 triplets in one roll =2500

We played this all the time while I was growing up, except that we just called it "Ten Thousand", and a few little rules were different. I love it as a kid, and I still love it now! It is fun that my kids are big enough to enjoy it now too. :)

There are so many "methods" of disciplining or training children, but in the end it doesn't come down to what you *do* but what you *see*: the spirit in the child.
