Michelle

I'm kind of a one track gal.... I pick a method and stick to it.  For example, I decided I was going to put my baby on a schedule and never looked back.  I tend to like textbook answers to life's problems... but the older my kids are getting the more I'm aware that we don't live in a world that always has simple solutions for life's problems....

like learning to go to the bathroom in the toilet... not the corner, not the bed, not under the table, not in your hands, not in the tub, etc. etc. etc.

With my first little girl I did the whole potty training boot camp.  Worked like a charm!  So, when I decided to train my little boy I cleared my schedule, pumped him full of liquids and prepared to be out of diapers in days.  A month later I called a friend (or maybe emailed, I don't remember) practically in tears.  I realized something very important.  There are so many great ways to do things (cloth diapers vs. disposable, home school vs. private/public, scheduled feedings, unscheduled feedings, etc.) and just because one method stands out to me as the mom doesn't mean that method will work for every child God gives me.  And so... we adjusted.

We're currently potty training when we're at home and using pull-ups or diapers when we're out.... and no rules.  Not one.  No, "every time we're home he'll go without a diaper." or anything.  I may end up with one confused child who still poops and pees wherever he'd like but I'm realizing something here... I can be flexible!  I don't have to force a method on each kid... I can play it by ear... and eventually hope that eventually he'll figure out the toilet is our friend.

So true, Michelle. :) Sometimes potty training is more of a process, than an "event".
