Isn't she cute - and the puppy insisted on being in the pic too!

How to make a strip skirt

Step 1.

Cut a piece of poster board to be your template. Measure 2 inches across the top and 10 across the bottom. If you want a skirt with less flair at the bottom then make the top 4 inches and the bottom 6inches. The total length of your template will be the length of your skirt less seam/hem allowance.

Step 2.

Cut out two types of fabric into strips using your template

Step 3.

Pin and Sew the strips together face to face.

Step 4.

Iron the seams down

Step 5.

Fold the waist over 1/4 inch and pin and sew

Step 6.

If you have a less tapered set of strips then you should be able to fold the waist band over an inch and create a loop for your elastic. But because this was so tapered it didin't work well and I had to come up with a solution. I made a tube out of fabric for the elastic and attached it to the waist! Here is a pic of the boo boo. YOu can see it doesn't fold over and line up easily!

Here is the tube I made and how I attached it!

Step 7

Hem the bottom

Step 8

Close up the dress by sewing the final long seam - then press it.

Step 9

Thread the elastic through the tube and sew together.

Step 10

Tuck one end of the loop under the other and sew to the elastic.

One strip skirt - done! Twirl and enjoy!

A big snowfall blew in, so we made the best of it and went sledding. I was very careful and just went down the little hills, but I’m sure the baby liked it—he was kicking up a storm!
