My name is Elizabeth, and I am the happy wife of ten years to Fabio and fulltime mama to four beautiful children: Joshua-9, Dominique 7, Israel- almost 5, Johann-3 and expecting a new baby in April 2012! We are currently living in Brazil as missionaries and life never ceases to be an adventure!!!
I love motherhood with a passion and am passionate about providing a place here at MamaKnowsBest where mothers can learn, grow, and share ... pooling the wisdom of many into one big jackpot for mothers.

Here is a little flipchart that I made a little while back, to teach my little boy about the value of money, and he LOVED it!!! It was super easy to
make, except for cutting out ONE HUNDRED paper pennies, but it was
worth it! I printed the paper money from some online source I googled,
and made this with cardstock so it would last. I also put contact paper
over it. I LOVE contact paper and put it on everything!!! I could just
see all the money falling off or getting pulled off otherwise!
Anyway,
after we made this, I got the biggest treat a homeschool mom can get: a
compliment from her student! Joshua thanked me for teaching him about
money and making the flipchart with him, and it totally seemed to make
something CLICK with him about money value, even though he "knew" the
values in a superficial way before. THEN, he told me math is his
*favorite* school subject! This was so awesome to me, because he was
NOT enjoying it the previous fall, and I had been working hard on this area, so I
was so encouraged that something was working!
I adapted the idea for this from Dinah Zike's Big Book of Books,
which is an awesome resource!!! I highly recommend it! I have also
seen this type of "layer book" or "layer look book" described on some
online sites, if you google it. :)

Under the dollar flap, I wrote what a dollar is in every way I could think of. :) The
quarter row is divided into four parts, as a visual aid to see that
four quarters equal a dollar, and under the flaps, I wrote what a
quarter is in every way I could think of, including 1/4 of a dollar. I
didn't spend a lot of time on this with Joshua, but I thought it would
be a good introduction to fractions, so I briefly explained it, and he
seemed to get it! Ditto
under the dimes section, and the nickels and pennies too. Then on the
back page, I wrote out a summary of all the values. Joshua told me he
wanted to take it to bed with him and review it every day, lol!
